While that coordinator slot may have been filled, head coach Bobby Petrino now has the other coordinator position to fill in the coming weeks. In a press release, UA announced that defensive coordinator/secondary coach Willy Robinson has “resigned” his post. Before the release was...

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State coach Bill Snyder is the runaway pick as the ‘s Big 12 coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to a 10–2 finish and an appearance in the Cotton Bowl. Picked to finish eighth in the Big 12, the Wildcats instead finished eighth in the BCS after beating ranked teams Baylor and Texas and losing only to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. They were snubbed by the Sugar Bowl for two teams with lesser resumes, but will play Arkansas in a high-profile Cotton Bowl matchup. Snyder was selected on 16 of the 17 ballots turned in by members...

Report: Paterno Dealt With Second Mile

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Former Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno had business ties with board members of The Second Mile, the charity founded by alleged child molester and former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, The Daily is reporting. The Daily (http://bit.ly/vwE2vC ) reported Monday that Paterno and three fellow investors, including longtime Second Mile board chairman Robert Poole, secured financing to build a $ 125 million luxury retirement community around 2002, according to public records. The publication also reported...

Luck, Griffin Among 5 Heisman Finalists

NEW YORK — Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck entered the season as the overwhelming favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. He will head to New York for the presentation of college football’s most famous player of the year award having relinquished front-runner status to another quarterback– one known as RG3. Luck, along with Robert Griffin III, Trent Richardson, Tyrann Mathieu and Montee Ball are the Heisman finalists. STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford’s Andrew Luck has won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, presented annually to the nation’s top quarterback who best exemplifies character and scholastic and athletic achievement. The award was announced Monday by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation. The trophy will be presented Friday in Baltimore, where Unitas starred with the Colts. Penn St. Relegated to Ticket City Bowl

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — No. 24 Penn State will close its tumultuous season on Jan. 2 in the Ticket City Bowl against No. 20 Houston. The Nittany Lions (9–3, 6–2) tied Wisconsin for first in the Big Ten Leaders Division. But the program is in turmoil after former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was charged last month with sexually abusing eight boys over a 15-year span. School trustees fired Joe Paterno in the aftermath of the charges amid mounting criticism that the Hall of Fame coach and other school leaders should have done more to prevent alleged abuse. The...

Sugar Skips Boise for Hokies, Michigan

The Sugar Bowl passed on the chance to take the higher-rated teams Sunday night, reviving long-standing complaints that the system is more about dollar signs than performance on the field. No. 13 Michigan will face 17th-ranked Virginia Tech in the Jan. 3 game at New Orleans, a showdown of storied programs that was patched together after the Sugar Bowl couldn’t invite one of its traditional partners from the Southeastern Conference. Top-ranked LSU and No. 2 Alabama will both be coming to the Big Easy, but they’ll be playing six days later in the BCS championship...

BCS No. 2 Comes Down to Alabama, Ok. St.

Too soon to call, but things are looking up for Alabama. Alabama and Oklahoma State are awaiting word on which team will play LSU in the BCS national title game on Jan. 9 in New Orleans. The returns have been trickling in Sunday, and so far the Crimson Tide seems to be in the lead. In the USA Today coaches’ poll, Alabama was No. 2, but the commanding lead it had last week is now down to 22 points. The coaches’ poll and the Harris poll count for two-thirds of a team’s BCS score. The Harris poll was due out later Sunday. A compilation of six computer ratings...

Sunday Morning Observations, Week 14: There Is LSU. and Then There Is Everybody Else.

As I write these words on Sunday morning, we don’t know who will face LSU for the national championship. We don’t know who’s going to end up ranked where. We don’t know the bowl lineup. We don’t know, to be frank, quite a lot. But after seeing LSU dismantle Georgia on Saturday night in the SEC Championship Game, I am pretty sure we know at least one thing. That thing is this: LSU is the best team in the country. And it’s not really even close. We took a look at these amazing Tigers in this weeks’ edition of Sunday Morning Observations. Read Sunday...

Oklahoma St. Routs Sooners, Takes Big 12

STILLWATER, Okla. — Mike Gundy didn’t feel comfortable campaigning for No. 3 Oklahoma State to play for the national title until his Cowboys had at least won a conference crown. His team made a better case than anything he could have ever said. Joseph Randle ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns, Richetti Jones returned a fumble for a score and No. 3 Oklahoma State throttled No. 13 Oklahoma 44–10 Saturday night to win the Big 12 championship and make its case to play for the BCS national title. “I don’t think there’s any question Oklahoma...
