Hokies LB Gouviea-Winslow Out for Season

BLACKSBURG, Va. —Vir­ginia Tech says start­ing out­side line­backer Jeron Gouviea-Winslow will miss the remain­der of the sea­son with a sprained left foot.

The school says the Lis­franc sprain was con­firmed Thurs­day by an MRI. The red­shirt junior will undergo surgery next week at Mont­gomery Regional Hos­pi­tal in Blacksburg.

Gouveia-Winslow, who was injured while dis­rupt­ing a fake field goal attempt by Miami in the No. 19 Hok­ies’ 38–35 vic­tory Sat­ur­day, will be replaced by Alonzo Tweedy in the start­ing lineup. Tweedy had eight tack­les and a sack against Miami.

Gouveia-Winslow is the fourth promi­nent Hok­ies player side­lined for the sea­son with an injury. He joins defen­sive line­men Kwa­maine Bat­tle and Antoine Hop­kins, both out with knee injuries, and wide receiver Dyrell Roberts (arm) is also out.

Vir­ginia Tech plays at Wake For­est Saturday.
