A Grade I race for two-year old fil­lies, the Spin­away Stakes, is con­tested at a dis­tance of 7 fur­longs on dirt.  The race is a major prep to the Breeder’s Cup Juve­nile Fillies.

Since its inau­gu­ra­tion in 1881, the race has been run at dif­fer­ent dis­tances: 5 fur­longs (1881–1900), 5.5 fur­longs (1901–1921), 6 fur­longs (1922–1993), 7 fur­longs (from 1994).

The race was hosted by the Bel­mont Park from 1993 to 1995. It was not run for a period of eight years from (1892–1900) and got can­celled for two years (1911 and 1912) due to the New York State leg­is­lated ban on parimutuel betting.
