Shane Carwin, Junior Dos Santos Both Looking for the KO at UFC 131

On Tuesday’s media call, UFC heavyweights Shane Carwin and Junior dos Santos made very clear what fans should expect to see when they meet in the Octagon on June 11, and it’s more or less what most people were already expecting. “Let’s face it, both dos Santos and I got to where we’re at right now by knocking people out on our feet,” Carwin said. “I think we’re both explosive fighters and I think the fans are going to…have a real treat at UFC 131 when it gets to that main event, knowing both guys have knockout power in their hands.” Dos Santos echoed...

Bernie: If There Is Peace We’ll Go to Bahrain

Bernie: If there is peace we’ll go to Bahrain Bernie Ecclestone is hopeful that the World Motorsport Council will on Friday decide that Bahrain GP should go ahead. The race, which was originally scheduled for February 21, was postponed due to civil unrest in the Arab Kingdom. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the situation in the region, Ecclestone believes that if the safety of all those involved can be assured than the race should be rescheduled for later in the year. “If there’s peace there and they’re happy, we’re happy to compromise...

Hamilton Attacks ‘joke’ Stewards

Hamilton fumes at rivals and stewards Lewis Hamilton launched a furious attack on stewards after twice being penalised for incidents during his race to sixth place in Monaco. “It’s an absolute frickin’ joke,” he said. “I’ve been to see the stewards five times out of six this season.” Asked why that was the case, he replied apparently in jest: “Maybe it’s because I’m black. That’s what Ali G says.” McLaren driver Hamilton later visited stewards to explain his comments and will not be charged with disrepute. “They said at the end that they would...

UFC 130 Musings

UFC 130 is in the books…Michael DiSanto takes a look back… RAMPAGE WINS, BUT WAS IT ENOUGH? A couple of fortuitous events found Quinton “Rampage” Jackson fighting for the right to challenge UFC light heavyweight Champion Jonny “Bones” Jones. All he needed to do was defeat Matt Hamill in thrilling fashion to guarantee the title shot that has eluded him since losing the strap to Forrest Griffin three years ago.  Rampage took care of part of the job. He defeated Hamill and did it with relative ease. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the most exciting...

Massa: Hamilton Needs to Learn a Lesson

Massa: Hamilton needs to learn a lesson Felipe Massa has called on the FIA to teach Lewis Hamilton a lesson, otherwise he “will not learn.” The Brazilian was furious with the McLaren driver following their collision in Monte Carlo on Sunday, which ultimately resulted in Massa retiring from the grand prix. Trying to take a position off Massa, Hamilton hit the Ferrari driver at Loews. He was then able to overtake through the tunnel. However, running onto the marbles in his damaged car, Massa hit the barrier in the tunnel and it was game over. And...

UFC 130 Main Event Results — Jackson Roll; Rampage Decisions Hamill

Click below for the UFC 130 main event report… LAS VEGAS, May 28 — It wasn’t the action-packed war that he wanted to deliver, but former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was dominant in the UFC 130 main event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday night as he pounded out a three round unanimous decision victory over Matt Hamill. Matt Hamill’s tough, I tried to knock him out,” said Jackson, who claimed to have entered the bout with a fractured hand. “I did what I had to do, I scraped out the W.” Scores were 30–27 across...

Jackson No Longer Rampages Through Fights

LAS VEGAS — Quinton “Rampage” Jackson stole the show at the post-fight news conference following UFC 130 on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion bantered with reporters and kidded with UFC president Dana White following his one-sided victory over Matt Hamill. It was fun, but it would have been much more enjoyable had he stolen the show with his performance in the cage. A top collegiate wrestler, Hamill was unable to come close to taking Jackson down and when...

Vettel Seals Dramatic Monaco Win

Highlights — Monaco Grand Prix By Sarah HoltBBC Sport in Monte Carlo Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel won his first Monaco Grand Prix and pulled further ahead in the championship. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and McLaren’s Jenson Button, who briefly led the race, had closed in on Vettel but a late safety car helped the German. Alonso finished second for the first time in 2011, with Button third and Red Bull’s Mark Webber fourth. Lewis Hamilton became embroiled in a row over critical comments about stewards after finishing sixth. The Englishman...

Fans Jeer Jackson After UFC 130 Win

LAS VEGAS — A poor main event capped a desultory Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-view Saturday, as boos, and a few tossed beers, rained down upon the cage after Quinton “Rampage” Jackson scored a unanimous decision victory over Matt Hamill in the main event of UFC 130 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The card was not very captivating, but the main event made it seem even worse. Hamill said he would break Jackson’s will, but all that was broken was the will of the spectators to watch more. Jackson said he had a broken hand but fought anyway....
